17-year-old arrested in Discovery Bay car crash that left one dead, one injured
A teenager has been arrested after allegedly crashing his car into an occupied security booth in Discovery Bay Saturday morning, killing one of the guards inside.
The 17-year-old boy was driving eastbound on Balfour Road when he went through the intersection with Bixler Road. He then crashed into the guard booth at a gated community two miles east of Brentwood, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two security guards were inside the booth at the time of the crash, which occurred just before midnight Saturday morning, said CHP Officer Dan Gilmore. One of the guards died at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
The teenager was briefly hospitalized as a precaution before being arrested and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall on charges of vehicular manslaughter.
Gilmore said intoxication was not believed to have been a factor, but the crash remained under investigation Saturday afternoon.
