LA Galaxy beat NY Red Bulls 2-1 in MLS Cup final
CARSON, Calif. (PIX11) – The LA Galaxy beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 in the MLS Cup final to win the team's sixth league championship on Saturday.
The Red Bulls went down 2-0 within the first 15 minutes after Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljić scored goals for the Galaxy.
Massapequa native Sean Nealis scored a goal for New York off a corner kick in the 28th minute to make it 2-1 and put the Red Bulls back in the game. But New York was unable to find another goal the rest of the way.
The Galaxy earned their sixth MLS Cup title with the win, the most of any team in the league.
New York, one of the league's original franchises, has yet to win the MLS Cup in its 30-year existence. It was the Red Bulls' first MLS Cup final appearance since 2008.
Saturday's championship was played at Dignity Health Sports Park, the home of the Galaxy in Carson, California.
