Willy Adames Signs Seven-Year Deal With Giants

Willy Adames and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a seven-year, $182 million dollar contract pending physical, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. It is the largest deal in Giants history and third largest contract for a Dominican-born player.

Adames, 29, had a career year with the Brewers in 2024, hitting .251/.331/.462 with 32 home runs and 112 RBI. Adames also managed to steal 21 bases in 25 chances. He finished top-10 in MVP voting and helped propel the Brewers to the National League Central title. Adames has always had a strong offensive profile but the 2024 season saw his defense take a huge hit. Defensively, he had 20 errors and UZR and DRS each disliked his work at shortstop. The Brewers will receive a draft pick in the Competitive Balance Round A in the 2025 draft due to Adames denying the qualifying offer.

Before signing, Adames reported he was willing to move to third base which increased his amount of suitors. However, he will remain at shortstop with the presence of 2024 Gold Glove winner Matt Chapman at third base for the Giants.

The Mets had interest in Adames after his strong offensive season in 2024. With his willingness to move to third base, it would have opened up the opportunity for Mark Vientos to move over to first base. Adames would have offered the Mets a power bat and some much-needed speed to the heart of their lineup. Instead, the Mets will focus their attention elsewhere as they await the decision of Juan Soto.
