Three takeaways from the Bears’ 38-13 loss Sunday to the 49ers:

The Bears lost their seventh consecutive game, a streak half as long as the franchise record they set in 2022-23 and their sixth-longest skid since the NFL/AFL merger. The Bears totaled four yards in the first half under interim coach Thomas Brown, their fewest since at least 1991. They were outgained by 302 yards before halftime, the largest first-half margin in the NFL this season.

No defense

Firing Matt Eberflus left the Bears without their de facto defensive coordinator. Eric Washington’s debut was more toothless than any game Eberflus called all season. The Bears gave up more points in the first three quarters and the first three seconds of the fourth than they had all season.

Not in a rush

Quarterback Caleb Williams struggled in the first half, but so did his running game. The Bears ran four times for seven yards — all by D’Andre Swift — in the first two quarters. It was their worst rushing performance in the first half since a 2017 loss to the Eagles.
