AFTER beers at his office Christmas party, Drew’s attention is caught by a woman on the dancefloor who isn’t his wife.
Colleague Rosie, also married, catches his eye and beckons him towards a door. They slip outside as Fairytale Of New York plays in the background.
Drew wraps an arm around Rosie’s waist, savouring her scent as he pulls her closer. The two share a passionate kiss, their respective spouses momentarily forgotten.
Later they will enjoy a night of passion in Rosie’s hotel room. But it’s not the first time they have had mind-blowing sex behind their partners’ back.
Drew, 42, has been routinely sleeping with Rosie, 38, after their Christmas party for the past SEVEN years, enjoying a once-a-year fling with his “work wife”.
And they are not alone, as 85 per cent of affairs begin at work, according to research.
Each year at the festive do, dad-of-two Drew beelines for Rosie.
He says: “I work in senior management at an employment agency with Rosie, who is not always in the same office as she splits her time between a few locations.
“She’s four years younger than me, at 38, and devastatingly beautiful, charismatic, funny and smart — a lot of the guys in the office tried it on with her when she started.
“We became good pals and it was clear there was an attraction between us, but I’m married with a six-year-old daughter and twin boys aged three, and Rosie’s married with young children too.
“I’ve cheated on my wife in the past, with an occasional kiss with a stranger when I’ve been at the pub or on stag dos, but that went a step further at the work Christmas party in 2017 with Rosie. She and I had a lot to drink and ended up flirting and dancing together.
“We were some of the last in the venue. I was so caught up in the heat of the moment, I didn’t have a second to think. Familiarity came so naturally between us that it seemed entirely mutual when we kissed on the pavement outside the bar.
“I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t feel guilty, my wife didn’t cross my mind as passion took over.”
They threw caution to the wind and went to Rosie’s hotel room for a night of passion. “We did things I’d never done with my wife,” Drew says. “Rosie focused on me in ways my partner never has. We spent hours exploring each other’s body in the bed and the shower.
“I woke up filled with guilt, but Rosie reassured me. She promised me it wasn’t going to be difficult at work. I wondered if she’d had dalliances like this before, but never asked. If anything it made me even more attracted to her.”
At work they continued as if nothing had ever happened between them, even playfully enjoying banter in front of colleagues.
A year later, in 2018, at their next office Christmas party, Drew didn’t anticipate that they would reconnect for round two. He says: “I’d spent the year thinking about Rosie in a sexual way, but didn’t expect a repeat.
“Yet the same thing happened again — when the night ended and we were alone, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. We had incredible sex in my hotel room.
“Since then, every year we have the most amazing connection at the work Christmas do. I give in to Rosie sexually because she wants me so much and that level of attraction is intoxicating and addictive.”
They have a pact not to spill details of their flings to anyone else. Drew says: “All year we act like normal colleagues. As we both have families we love, a full-time affair is off the cards.
Flirting and dancing
“Also, my jobs do not involve travelling around, so we couldn’t sneak off to hotels without it raising eyebrows with our spouses.
“So, at the Christmas party, we arrive a day early or stay a day late and enjoy each other. I’ve never needed a cover story — my wife just assumes it’s a two-day event.
“We were drunk the first couple of years but don’t need that confidence boost now. There’s no small talk, we just have incredible sex and spend hours enjoying each other’s body.
“We chat like normal colleagues for the rest of the year — we know the names of each other’s kids, and we’ve talked about how unhappy we both are in our marriages, but agreed we won’t leave our spouses, as we both have small kids.”
Drew adds: “Part of the reason the sex is so incredible is because it’s stolen moments. Maybe that would change if we were in a relationship. At our hook-ups we have lots of sex, satiate that part of ourselves, then go back to our lives.”
Drew’s wife Emily*, 38, once discovered messages between him and Rosie on his phone, but he was quick to cover his tracks.
He says: “After my first dalliance with Rosie, we WhatsApped a bit to make sure we were both OK, but my wife saw some fairly innocent messages and kept asking me who Rosie was, so we stopped that.
“I explained Rosie was a colleague, and Emily’s suspicions were aroused but she didn’t push and accepted the reassurance.”
“But I have form for having cheated on her before. She found out and I’m on my last chance.”

Drew adds of Rosie: “I used to feel guilty, as my wife has a lot on looking after the kids. But my life as the breadwinner isn’t easy either.
“Emily is tired a lot and finds it hard managing three young kids, so Rosie’s helping my marriage, not hindering, as I don’t expect as much sex from my wife because I have Rosie. What we get up to gives me more than enough memories to enjoy for the rest of the year.
“Rosie buys underwear for me to enjoy and we’ve explored a lot sexually. She’s the most attentive lover and completely different to my wife — curvier and a lot more body-confident, and that’s a real turn-on.
She’s not scared to experiment and loses herself in the moment. Plus, I see Rosie at work, and knowing I’ve enjoyed her body and been intimate with her when so many of the blokes at work fancy her is also a turn-on.
Not one of my colleagues has noticed the sexual tension between us, as we have been so careful to hide it.
“I don’t know what the consequences would be at work if the affair came to light. It would be frowned upon a lot as we’re both senior and it doesn’t set a good example.”
More present husband
Christmas is known for being one of the most stressful times of year for parents, with 36 percent admitting they feel increased anxiety, according to a study by marketing agency Mintel.
But Drew believes that sleeping with Rosie behind Emily’s back helps him blow off steam, making him a more present husband and parent.
He says: “The festive period has become a flashpoint for arguments between me and my wife, but knowing I have Rosie to look forward to in mid-December keeps me calm.”
Keeping his indiscretions under wraps is for the best, Drew believes.
He says: “If Emily found out she’d be absolutely broken and devastated. And I don’t think she’d ever forgive me.
“But to anyone saying cheating is morally wrong, I’d say cheating only becomes an issue when people get hurt or it comes out. If it stays quiet there is no harm. I don’t feel guilty about Rosie’s husband for example.

“I know a lot of people will frown on what we’re doing, but no one’s getting hurt and two marriages are surviving because of it. I’m sure we aren’t the only colleagues leading a double life together — I see flirtatious looks exchanged in my office all the time.
“The danger of having a ‘work wife’ or ‘husband’ is that you have a tantalisingly close relationship and it’s only human nature that you are going to end up crossing forbidden lines.
“I don’t see it as having an affair, because for the rest of the year I’m focused on my wife and family — it’s just 48 hours every Christmas with a woman who sets my world on fire sexually.
“We aren’t in love, it is just lust. I do think about her the rest of the year, but confining our activities to Christmas means I’m a faithful and fairly happily married man with a contented wife.
“I’m not sure if my wife and I will be together for ever, but this dalliance will not be the reason my marriage ends.”

MUM-OF-TWO Claire, 48, tells how husband Phil, AGE, hooked up with his “work wife” at the office Christmas party. She says . . .
6There’s an idea that you can get away with anything at the Christmas party, but I’d urge a note of caution. Phil once hooked up with his work wife and I found out.
Phil works in IT. The party was held in the company’s offices – they’re a very boozy bunch. I’d met my husband’s work wife at various company events and I didn’t like the way she flirted with him.
I brought it up once and he seemed genuinely taken aback and claimed there was no flirting.
Still, there weren’t really any suspicions. I guess I didn’t have time to think about it as I was an overworked mum of two young kids.
I have no idea what time Phil got back from the party, I was asleep. It was probably in the early hours, which wasn’t unusual. There was nothing suspicious about his behaviour the next day.
Then, a couple of weeks later, Phil’s firm had another party which the other halves were invited to. One of his colleagues came up to me – she was quite tipsy – and was rattling on about what a great bash the Christmas party had been and how this year’s snoggers were poor Phil and Susie*.
Apparently, I was supposed to laugh. Call me old-fashioned, but I didn’t get the joke. My heart burst out of my mouth, I felt so humiliated.
When I confronted him at home, he said it was a one-off drunken snog, it didn’t mean anything, had never happened before and would never happen again.
He said he didn’t see her like that, he only fancied me. My head was all over the place, but I wanted to believe him.
If he had slept with her then it would have been different.
The fact Phil’s colleague had said “poor Phil”, and she thought I knew, made me lean towards thinking this wasn’t something serious.
He’d always been a steady, trustworthy guy.
Susie later left the company and they’re not in touch. So I chose to believe him, and we’re still together. But it was a serious wobble. I struggled to trust him for a long time.
Are we happy? There are days when I think he’s the hottest thing since sliced bread, and there are days when I would happily bash him over the head with a frying pan!
And yes, he does still go to7 the Christmas party…
