MLB Insider Reveals Team’s ‘Edge’ In Juan Soto Sweepstakes
The Mets reportedly are the favorites in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, but the other New York club shouldn’t be counted out.
Soto hit free agency after a very fruitful season with the Yankees. The 26-year-old earned his fourth straight All-Star nod and helped the Bronx Bombers march all the way to the 2024 World Series. Now, Soto must decide if he wants to stay in pinstripes or take his talents elsewhere.
The Yankees reportedly made a very, very expensive offer to Soto, and if you ask the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Hal Steinbrenner’s club also has two important factors working in its favor.
“Yankees’ edge in Soto derby all things being equal is Aaron Judge: One, Judge said from the start he didn’t mind/care if Soto makes more money (Soto may get double Judge!), and two, word is Soto loves Judge behind him in lineup and as leader in clubhouse,” Heyman posted to X on Sunday.
Last Friday, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi was “not quite convinced” that Soto was going to stay with the Yankees. The pessimism was warranted, as other clubs like the Mets and the Boston Red Sox reportedly also made appealing pitches to Soto that go beyond money.
Thus, Steinbrenner and company likely will sweat out the conclusion of the Soto sweepstakes.
