Red Sox Rumors: What Boston ‘Stressed’ In Talks With Juan Soto

Money isn’t the only thing the Red Sox can offer Juan Soto.

While Soto’s highly anticipated decision largely will be dictated by dollar signs, other factors undoubtedly will enter the equation. After all, the superstar outfielder surely wants to check a number of boxes before he commits to a franchise for the next decade-plus.

Thus, interested teams needed to bring more than checkbooks to their respective meetings with Soto. In a column published Friday night, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman detailed how the Red Sox tried to sell Soto on taking his talents to Boston.

“The Red Sox at their meeting stressed their excellent prospect list, their history of Dominican stars (including Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz) and the excellent Fenway fit for Soto’s patented opposite-field drives,” Heyman wrote.

Time will tell if those selling points are strong enough for Soto to leave some money on the table. While the Red Sox reportedly made a very competitive financial offer to the four-time All-Star, both New York clubs reportedly presented Soto with richer values in negotiations.

Perhaps that’s why Boston reportedly is not the favorite to land the 26-year-old.
