FBI offers $50K in UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting

0

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The FBI is offering up to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter who killed UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson

The FBI has now plastered the suspect’s photo across its website, including on its “Most Wanted” list.

The suspected killer remains on the lam days after 50-year-old Thompson was fatally shot outside a Hilton hotel on 54th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, officials said.

Now, police have mounted evidence – including the suspected shooter’s backpack and photos of the suspect’s face – but have yet to release a name.

In addition to the FBI’s incentive, the NYPD is offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

Thompson, a man from Minnesota who was in New York City for an investors meeting, was specifically targeted by the shooter, police officials said. A motive has not yet been identified for the slaying, but police discovered shell casings on the scene that had the words “defend,” “depose,” and “deny” on them, sources told PIX11 News.

Late Saturday, police released two additional photos of the suspected shooter that appeared to be from a camera mounted inside a taxi.

Retracing the gunman’s steps using surveillance video, police say, it appears he left the city by bus soon after the shooting Wednesday morning outside the New York Hilton Midtown. He was seen on video at an uptown bus station about 45 minutes later, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.

Investigators believe he stayed in a Manhattan hostel before he left the city, using a fake ID and paying in cash.

Police say they believe the suspect acted alone.
