Parking relocated at Walkway Over the Hudson State Park
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The parking lot at 61 Parker Avenue, east of the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park will be closed until mid-January 2026, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced. The paved lot will be closed for a construction project at the edge of the site.
The construction project will rebuild the Maintenace Center at the edge of the existing parking lot. The construction will begin nearly four years after a fire destroyed the original building in 2021.
During the parking lot's closure, guests can utilize free parking on both sides of the Hudson River. In Poughkeepsie, visitors can park for free at Pulaski Park at 170 Washington Street, approximately 0.2 miles from the Washington Street Stairs, or along Brookside Avenue between Washington and Garden Streets.
In Highland, visitors may park for free in the gravel lot at 70 Haviland Road adjacent to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Caboose. On-street parking near the Walkway in both locations is also available, but visitors must follow posted signs.
Handicap-accessible parking may be found on the Highland side of the bridge and are encouraged to enter on that side as well. However, accessible street parking on the Poughkeepsie side may also be available.
The dirt lot, located across from the Walkway entrance will also be closed, as it will be used as a staging area for the project. Once the Maintenace Center construction is complete, Scenic Hudson will allow public parking in the space at night and on weekends.
