Poughkeepsie man arrested on grand larceny, extortion charges
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Poughkeepsie man was arrested on Dec. 4 for allegedly extorting a large sum of money from another person. Ian Buckley Jr., 25, faces multiple charges.
An investigation into Buckley determined he was using an alias to engage in an online conversation in which the two reportedly exchanged explicit photos. Buckley later told the victim he was the father of the alias he previously used, and the images sent were of a young teenager, troopers said.
Buckley allegedly threatened to report the victim for having child sex abuse images unless the victim paid Buckley in cash. Buckley allegedly extorted the victim for $22,000.
Charges:
- Grand Larceny in the third degree, a class D felony
- Grand Larceny by Extortion in the fourth degree, a class E felony
- Forgery in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor
- Criminal Impersonation in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor
Buckley was arraigned in the town of Milton Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear at the town of Hyde Park Court on Dec. 10 at 8:30 a.m.
