ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Monday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says this afternoon rain is rolling in for the Capital District with those in the north potentially getting a wintry mix. Temperatures will sit in the 30s.

A young boy is dead and a young girl is in critical condition after falling through ice at the Washington Park Lake. Also, the village of Whitehall has issued a local state of emergency, causing it to shut off all water on Sunday night. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Monday.

1. One dead, one injured in Washington Park Lake ice rescue

A 12-year-old boy is dead, and an 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after falling through the ice of Washington Park Lake around 4:35 p.m. on Saturday. Albany Police said on Sunday morning, members of the New York State Police underwater recovery team found the boy’s body at 7:25 p.m.

2. Water shut off, school canceled in Whitehall due to state of emergency

The village of Whitehall’s water has been shut off as of 11:30 p.m. on Sunday due to the declaration of a local state of emergency. Whitehall schools will also be closed on Monday due to the water shortage.

3. Past submarine veterans honored in wreath-laying ceremony

The Albany-Saratoga Submarine Veterans Association laid wreaths on former members' headstones at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Saturday. The current members came together to honor our past submarine members early in their own wreath-laying ceremony, as National Wreath Laying is on December 14. The members first laid the wreaths on the headstones and then said a few words of remembrance to their departed veterans.

4. Albany chef to host community meal for 500 families

A local chef and theater are coming together to host a holiday dinner for 500 families on Saturday, December 14. Chef Jermaine Wright of 8 County Kitchen and Palace Theatre aims to feed 500 people while hosting a food and toy drive right before the holidays through the Each One, Feed One Holiday Harvest.

5. Trump says he can’t guarantee tariffs won’t raise US prices

Donald Trump said he can’t guarantee that his promised tariffs on key U.S. foreign trade partners won’t raise prices for American consumers and he suggested once more that some political rivals and federal officials who pursued legal cases against him should be imprisoned.
