Water shut off, school canceled in Whitehall due to state of emergency
WHITEHALL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The village of Whitehall's water has been shut off as of 11:30 p.m. on Sunday due to the declaration of a local state of emergency. Whitehall schools will also be closed on Monday due to the water shortage.
The village of Whitehall Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting at 9:25 p.m. on Sunday, at which the village voted to declare a state of emergency due to a failure in the water system or its components and a critically low supply of water. The decision for the water shut-off was also made in this meeting. The village's Department of Public Works had previously issued a water restriction notice on Sunday afternoon due to these drought conditions.
Whitehall officials are working to take necessary action to mitigate the water supply and water system issues as soon as possible. The village says it will provide an update by 10 a.m. on Monday.
