Donald Trump reveals what Prince William told him about King Charles and Kate
King Charles is ‘fighting very hard’ as he continues treatment for cancer, Donald Trump said.
Calling the monarch’s diagnosis ‘sad’, the US president-elect made the comments after speaking with the Prince of Wales in Paris for the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame cathedral on Saturday.
Trump spoke to the New York Post and said William was ‘very handsome’, adding: ‘some people look better in person’.
William and Trump sat down for a meeting in the British ambassador’s residence in Paris to discuss King Charles and Princess Kate’s health.
Both of the royals were diagnosed with cancer this year, and have been undergoing treatment – though Kate finished her chemotherapy in September.
Trump said: ‘I asked him about his wife and he said she’s doing well. And I asked him about his father and his father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.
‘We had a great talk for half an hour, a little more than half an hour. We had a great, great talk.’
The royal family is a key part of helping to build and solidify the UK’s relationship with the US.
Trump praised William, saying: ‘He’s a good-looking guy. He looked really very handsome last night. Some people look better in person. He looked great. He looked really nice, and I told him that.’
Prince William and Trump were later joined at the ceremony by America’s First Lady Jill Biden and nearly 50 other heads of state and government at the reopening celebration for the Notre Dame, which was gutted in a 2019 fire.
Though Trump seems fond of the royals, it’s unclear if they feel the same about him.
A royal book released in September claimed the late Queen Elizabeth II found former President Donald Trump ‘very rude’ – and also questioned the leader’s marriage.
A portion of Brown’s book, published in the Daily Mail, read: ‘She particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting.
‘She also believed President Trump “must have some sort of arrangement” with his wife Melania, or else why would she have remained married to him?’
Trump was hosted by the Queen multiple times, but only once for an official state visit in 2019.
He boasted to Fox News of his ‘great relationship’ with the Queen of England, saying: ‘We were laughing and having fun. And her people said she hasn’t had so much fun in 25 years.
‘Then I got criticised for it because they said we were having too much fun… I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship with the United Kingdom.’
