Five Irish Swimmers in Action on Opening Day in Budapest
2024 Olympic Finalist Ellen Walshe and European Champion Danielle Hill will get Ireland’s first senior international competition, since the Paris Olympic Games, underway at the 2024 World Swimming Championships (25m) on Tuesday in Hungary’s capital city Budapest.
Six of Ireland’s thirteen swimmers will be in action at the Duna Arena on the opening day of competition.
Hill opens the Championships for Ireland in the 100m Backstroke, followed by John Shortt in the male equivalent event. Hill is the Irish senior record holder in the event in 57.56 from 2023 and Shortt the Irish junior record holder in 52.24, a record he set just weeks ago.

Paris Olympian Max McCusker swims in the Men’s 50m Butterfly while Nathan Wiffen represents Ireland for the first time at a World Championships in the 1500m Freestyle. Wiffen will swim in the fastest heat of the event with Tuesday evening’s Finals.
