Cristian Romero throws public support behind Ange Postecoglou amid sack calls
Cristian Romero has said that the finger should be pointed at him and his Tottenham teammates rather than on Ange Postecoglou for the team’s recent slump.
Ange Postecoglou is a man under immense pressure
While there is no doubt that Postecoglou has been hamstrung by Tottenham’s bloated injury list over the last month, the Tottenham head coach is undeniably a man under intense pressure at the moment.
The Australian continues to defend his side’s approach and insists that he will not change his methods, but he will be aware that he might not be in the job much longer if recent does not turn the results around.
However, it seems that Postecoglou can still count on the support of his players, who appear to be very much behind him.
Cristian Romero backs Postecoglou
Romero, who returned to the starting eleven on Sunday, only to go off with a quad injury 15 minutes into the encounter, has now publicly backed his head coach.
The Tottenham vice-captain remarked that the players are very happy to be working under Postecoglou and his coaching staff.
Romero told Telemundo (as relayed by BBC Sport): “He’s a great coach. We saw it in the first season. In this second one, we’ve suffered a lot of injuries.
“Players are the first ones to be criticised, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening.
“We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play. We’ll try to move on quickly.”
Why Daniel Levy will not pull the plug on this project
One notices a very clear pattern in all the managerial sackings that Levy has made over the last five years.
In every case, the Tottenham chairman has pulled the plug when he felt that the coach had lost the dressing room and that the players were no longer playing for him.
That is still evidently not the case under Postecoglou, which is why Levy and the Tottenham board will likely give him time to see if he can turn things around.
