Yves Bissouma sends ‘burning’ apology to Spurs fans for losing them the game
Yves Bissouma takes to social media to apologise for giving away a penalty at a crucial stage of the game against Chelsea and makes an interesting Tottenham promise.
Poor lapse in judgement from Yves Bissouma cost Spurs
The game was finely poised at the hour mark, with Spurs leading 2-1 and Chelsea throwing bodies forward in the hope of drawing level.
The equaliser was then handed to them on a plate as Bissouma put in a reckless tackle inside the box to bring down Moises Caicedo, even though the Chelsea man was running to the byline rather than towards the goal.
Cole Palmer converted from 12 yards to level the scores before scoring another spot-kick later in the match as the Blues ran out 4-3 winners.
Yves Bissouma apologises to Spurs fans for his mistake
Bissouma has taken to Instagram stories to apologise to his teammates, fans and the coaching staff, admitting that his mistake cost the side three points.
The Tottenham midfielder also added that he will learn from this error and promised supporters that they will see the ‘real’ him from now on.
His message read: “I’m so sad for that mistake. It’s burning me because we lost the game today from this mistake. I feel sorry for my teammates, the staff and the fans. I’ll take responsibility for that one. I’ll learn from this one. It’s time to show the real me. Thanks for all the support.”
Bissouma has bigger concerns than the poor tackle
While the tackle was an extremely poor one from Bissouma, those kinds of momentary lapses in concentration can happen.
The bigger concern is the Mali international’s inability to turn and pick out a forward pass when he receives the ball with his back to goal in this Tottenham team.
Postecoglou‘s system requires midfielders who can make the right decisions under pressure to play out through the opposition press, and Bissouma is considerably poorer than Rodrigo Bentancur in that department.
