Pedestrian killed in east Topeka crash identified by police
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Police have released the identity of a pedestrian killed in an east Topeka crash on early Sunday morning.
The Topeka Police Department (TPD) has identified the crash victim as Fernando Alvarez, 26, of Topeka. His death marks the second deadly pedestrian crash in less than a month for the area.
Law enforcement responded to a reported injury crash involving a pedestrian just after midnight on Dec. 8 in the 2500 block of Southeast Adams. Officers arriving at the scene found a man, later identified as Alvarez, was hit and killed by a vehicle traveling south. The area was closed to traffic for several hours while police investigated the situation.
Another individual was killed in the same area on Nov. 20 in a deadly pedestrian crash. Emmett Leatherwood, 72, of Topeka was identified as the crash victim.
