ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Former Rensselaer County Board of Elections Commissioner Jason Schofield was sentenced to one year of probation and must pay a $2,000 fine as well as a $1,200 special assessment in a voter fraud case. Schofield was indicted in September 2022 for unlawfully using the names and dates of birth of voters to fraudulently apply for absentee ballots.

The defendant resigned from his elections commissioner position in December of 2022 and pleaded guilty to the above crimes in January of last year.

Schofield recently got a clerical job for the city of Rensselaer, before the Rensselaer Common Council voted to reduce his salary from nearly $40,000 to $100 a year in September. The council then voted to eliminate Schofield's position, but the mayor vetoed this decision.
