Rohit Sharma explains team India’s decision to restrict fans from practice sessions
New Delhi: India suffered a defeat in the second Test in Adelaide, allowing Australia to level the series. After their heavy loss in Perth, the Aussies made a remarkable comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Indian Cricket Team has barred spectators from attending practice sessions in Adelaide, a rule that will apply for the rest of the Australia tour. This decision follows reports of awkward incidents during a practice session, where fans allegedly made unruly comments.
A BCCI official confirmed the development to PTI, stating, “It was complete chaos. During the Australian training session, fewer than 70 people showed up, but for India’s session, around 3,000 fans arrived. No one anticipated such a massive turnout.”
“There was another fans’ day in Sydney (ahead of the fifth Test) which stands cancelled as players were very disturbed by the rude and insensitive comments that were passed (here).”
However, Captain Rohit Sharma emphasized that practice sessions are meant to remain private, as they involve strategic discussions and planning in the nets. He explained that this was the reason fans have been requested not to attend these sessions.
“You know, the net sessions are very private, and this was the first time ever I saw so many people during the nets. When you’re training, when you’re practising, there are a lot of conversations that happen, and those conversations are very private. We don’t want anyone to hear those conversations. It is as simple as that because there’s a lot of planning.
“There’s a lot of talking that happens. And the crowds are very close to that practice facility. There are five days of Test cricket. They can come and watch us there.
