MLB Insider Projects Contract For Rumored Red Sox Target
Teoscar Hernández represents one of the biggest prizes in free agency now that Juan Soto reportedly agreed to terms with the New York Mets.
“There’s plenty of interest in Teoscar Hernández, for sure,” MLB insider Robert Murray relayed on “The Baseball Insiders” podcast Tuesday, an opinion shared by many.
The Red Sox are among the teams making a push for Hernández, who is coming off an All-Star season. Boston is expected to be aggressive in its pursuit and seeing how the Dodgers have not been able to find common ground with Hernández, it’s no longer feels inevitable he returns to Los Angeles.

Should the Red Sox really want Hernández to sign on the dotted line, Murray believes it will take an offer in the neighborhood of three years and $72 million. Murray said while there’s a chance the 32-year-old is granted a fourth year, he believes the average annual value will be in the $23-$24 million range.
“I think that’s probably the sweet spot for a deal to get done,” Murray said.
Murray said while Hernández is garnering plenty of interest, he didn’t feel a signing was imminent.
“I don’t necessarily think — my feel as of yesterday was that it was not close,” Murray said. “It could change for sure, but there was a gap in talks with the Dodgers. I didn’t get a sense that anything was close with the Red Sox or any of these other teams. There’s interest there for sure, but there is a gap.”
Hernández reportedly hoped to re-sign with the Dodgers, but apparently has told those close to him that he’s intrigued by the idea of playing at Fenway Park.
