How Bruins’ Defense Has Shown Improvement Under Joe Sacco

The Boston Bruins have gone 7-2-0 since the Original Six franchise fired Jim Montgomery and named Joe Sacco interim head coach on Nov. 19.

The Bruins are riding a four-game winning streak heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. They are also improving in several key areas of their game.

Andy Brickley and Dale Arnold discussed how the defense has improved on the latest episode of NESN’s “The Hockey Hub.”

“I think the biggest area … is if you can deny plays in center ice, meaning if you hold that offensive blue line as long as you can,” Brickley told Arnold. “And then, you really gap up in center ice and deny plays before the red line, and I think that’s the biggest turnaround. The biggest change. The biggest adjustment if you want to start talking about X’s and O’s. I think they’ve done a much, much better job in that area.”

The Bruins will be tested on their five-game road trip out west, with matchups against the Jets, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.
