One hospitalized after west Topeka hotel fire
TOPEKA (KSNT) - One person is at a local hospital after a hotel fire Tuesday evening.
Rosie Nichols, Public Safety Communications Specialist with the City of Topeka, announced in a news release that just before 5:30 p.m. crews with the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) responded to a reported fire at Woodspring Suites at 1801 SW Westport Dr.
Once firefighters were on the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from a single room on the second floor of the hotel. According to the news release, one individual was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
A TFD investigator, division chief, two battalion chiefs, five fire engines, two fire truck companies and one aerial company responded to the fire, along with help from AMR, Evergy, Kansas Gas and the Topeka Police Department. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing at this time, according to the news release.
