New York launches Mobile ID program
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New Yorkers now have a new digital option for carrying their identification. The New York Mobile ID (MiD) launched this week.
iPhone or Android users can upload their license, learner's permit, or state issued ID and store it on their phone. Officials with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles said it gives people greater control of what personal data they share when handing over their identification.
"No one at the DMV or the state of New York can track where you use your Mobile ID," NYS DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder said. "The tech was designed specifically to give users privacy."
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said MiD will also be accepted at nearly 30 airports across the U.S.
