Mohammed Shami flying to Australia? Recent reports makes HUGE revelation

0

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is facing a tough time on their tour in Australia, and the absence of experienced pacer Mohammed Shami is causing quite a stir. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently waiting to see how Shami’s fitness develops. Although there was optimism about his participation in the last two Tests, his fitness setbacks have pushed back his return. This article delves into what Shami’s situation means for the team and assesses the current bowling lineup.

After the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, India’s captain Rohit Sharma spoke with the media about Shami’s status. He showed hope for Shami’s return but didn’t give any exact timeline, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty over the bowler’s health, which is garnering attention as the series moves forward.

Shami is struggling with a swollen knee, which has made it difficult for him to achieve match fitness. Reports suggest he’s currently in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy representing Bengal, where his condition is being closely watched. His knee troubles have raised doubts about his readiness for the challenges of Test cricket, particularly with the demanding schedule of five-day matches.

As per Indian Express, recent fitness tests have shown that Shami is still not fit to compete in 5-day cricket. Consequently, plans for him to travel to Australia are on hold for now. However, he is expected to play in Bengal’s quarterfinal match against Baroda at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, presenting yet another chance to gauge his fitness levels.

While Shami has been taking part in T20 matches for Bengal, concerns remain about his ability to bowl long spells in red-ball cricket. Due to his knee problems, he has been limited to just four overs in T20 formats, raising questions about his stamina and effectiveness in longer formats of play.

Since making a return to competitive cricket, Shami has played one Ranji Trophy and has also played all seven games in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bengal, where he displayed his all round abilities.

Rohit Sharma has stressed the need to avoid rushing Shami back into the team unless he’s fully fit. The captain’s careful strategy shows the team’s commitment to ensuring Shami can deliver his best performance upon his return. As the series continues, the Indian team will have to face the hurdles of competing without one of their key players while keeping tabs on Shami’s recovery.

“We want to be more than 100% sure with him because it has been a long time. We don’t want to put pressure on him to come here and do the job for the team. There are some professionals monitoring, we will take a call based on what those guys feel. They are the ones watching him every game, how he pulls up after the game, after bowling four overs, standing for 20 overs. But the door is open for him to come and play anytime,” Rohit had said.
