I’m making extra Christmas cash as an Evri courier after the school run – I choose my hours but I HATE this part of it
ONE entrepreneurial mother has shared on TikTok how she’s making some extra Christmas cash.
The five-slide post by user @Shannonnunn3 showed her second day working as a courier for delivery company Evri.
In the first slide Shannon had snapped a smiley selfie ahead of her second day on the job.
In the second slide she revealed the mountain of parcels she needed to load into her Kia.
Somehow, by the third slide she had managed to stuff the parcels into her boot.
After getting packed up and ready to head out on her route, Shannon revealed what she HATES about the job: the loud hi-vis jacket she’s required to wear.
“Want to burn the hi-vis” she cheekily captioned the slide.
At the end of the post, Shannon reveals how many parcels she had delivered: “55 parcels done, she’s on a roll”
She later confirmed in the comments that she had only worked two hours that day.
Viewers were quick to flood her with questions.
One person asked: “Is the pay worth it? And are you self-employed or employed by Evri? Seriously considering.”
Shannon replied: “Self-employed, you can quit whenever you want without being tied to anything.”
Another person asked: “What was the training like? I have mine next week.”
Shannon warned that the training isn’t very thorough: “You turn up at the depot, they show you how to use the app then you go delivering parcels hahaha”
Another person chimed in to agree: “Literally, they give you parcels and say ‘here you go'”
And another user was keen to understand how the hours of the role might fit around their life: “What time do you have to go and pick the parcels up?”
Shannon told them: “Whatever time you want.
“I’m doing it around my little girls school hours for 2 days a week as I already have another job.”
So how do you become a self-employed Evri courier?
The Evri website states you will need three things to apply:
- An ios or Android smartphone
- Proof of Right to work self-employed in the United Kingdom
- Access to a car or van with licence and insurance

Do I need to pay tax on my side hustle income?
MANY people feeling strapped for cash are boosting their bank balance with a side hustle.
The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to earn some additional income – but you need to know the rules.
When you’re employed the company you work for takes the tax from your earnings and pays HMRC so you don’t have to.
But anyone earning extra cash, for example from selling things online or dog walking, may have to do it themselves.
Stephen Moor, head of employment at law firm Ashfords, said: “Caution should be taken if you’re earning an additional income, as this is likely to be taxable.
“The side hustle could be treated as taxable trading income, which can include providing services or selling products.”
You can make a gross income of up to £1,000 a year tax-free via the trading allowance, but over this and you’ll usually need to pay tax.
Stephen added: “You need to register for a self-assessment at HMRC to ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax.
“The applicable tax bands and the amount of tax you need to pay will depend on your income.”
If you fail to file a tax return you could end up with a surprise bill from HMRC later on asking you to pay the tax you owe – plus extra fees on top.
