Syria’s Interim Government under PM al Bashir to ensure security and power transition

International media reports have stated that Syrians have formed a transitional government under the leadership of Mohammad al-Bashir in order to “maintain security, provide services, and ensure a smooth transfer of power.”

As reported by Aswat al-Shaab late on Tuesday, December 10, Mohammad al-Bashir has officially been appointed as the Prime Minister of the transitional government. His term began with the first meeting, which included former Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali in Damascus, marking the formal commencement of the new government.

The primary goal of the provisional government, which will last until March 2025, is to “maintain security, provide services, and ensure a smooth transfer of power.”

Meanwhile, Al-Arabiya, quoting its sources, reported that the transitional government is assessing the current status of the military and will decide on the restructuring of its organization.

The Syrian People’s Assembly (Parliament) has also expressed support for the formation of the new government, as well as for the people’s call to establish a “new Syria.”

Mohammad al-Bashir, who has begun his duties as the Prime Minister of the provisional government, has stated that he has been assigned by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham to lead the government until March 2025.

The establishment of the transitional government in Syria is seen as a critical step toward stabilizing the country amid ongoing conflicts. With the primary goals of ensuring security, providing essential services, and facilitating a peaceful transition of power, this government holds the potential to bring about positive change.
