Investigation underway after Chester Street home damaged in fire

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The Lafayette Fire Department is asking the public to come forward with any information they may have relating to a fire this morning that damaged a home on Chester Street.
In a news release, the fire department said they responded to a report of a house fire in the 200 block of Chester Street at around 6:45 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, flames and heavy smoke were seen coming from the building.
The home was not occupied at the time of the fire.
"Neighbors informed fire officials that an individual(s) has been squatting in the dwelling," the Lafayette Fire Department said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
