'Very close': Man Utd on verge of signing Paraguayan sensation, deal almost done - report
Manchester United are very close to landing the signature of Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno, according to journalist Uriel Lugt.
The Red Devils made several high-profile signings during last summer’s transfer window, but they also focused on bolstering the academy with emerging talents.
The likes of Sekou Kone, Chido Obi-Martin and Samuel Lusale were signed earlier this year and the club are now on the verge of landing another talented prospect.
United are in advanced negotiations with Porteno for 17-year-old left-back Leon and they are ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement for his transfer next summer.
The Red Devils will reportedly pay a package around £4 million for his services.
United looking into the future with Leon
Leon has had a promising start to his career with Porteno. He has registered two assists from 19 appearances across all competitions in his breakout season.
The teenager has also caught the eye with his defensive attributes. He has won 50 percent of his duels with almost two tackles and two clearances on average.
He has made close to three recoveries per outing. He still needs to improve with his distribution and positioning which should happen with age and experience.
United are looking into the future with the young left-back. They have another bright left-back in Harry Amass in their ranks. Both could have big roles to play in years to come.
Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim has a tremendous track record of working with emerging talents and we should see more talented youngsters arriving from abroad.
