First Warning Weather team honored with climate coverage award

AUSTIN (KXAN) - It's not just the forecast the KXAN First Warning Weather team shares every day with viewers. They also prioritize climate change, the evidence of human involvement and how individuals can do their part in mitigating and adapting to those changes.

It is why the Austin chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby awarded the First Warning Weather team the 2024 Climate Coverage Champion Award. Jim Spencer, long-time KXAN forecaster, was also given an award for his 30+ years of climate change coverage in Austin.

The Citizens' Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on climate change, advocating for national policies addressing the national and global climate crisis.

The group is made up of volunteers who build relationships with elected officials, community members and media, in hopes of spreading awareness and promoting education of climate change.
