Bitter cold cracks CTA Brown Line rail, service fully resumed

0

Brown Line trains were on the move again Thursday morning after bitter cold apparently caused a CTA train track to crack on the North Side.

Earlier, trains were only operating between the Southport and the Loop stations because a section of the track cracked and a repair crew was sent in to fix it, according to CTA spokesperson Manny Gonzalez.

"The cracked rail was likely caused by the cold," said Gonzalez. "They did make the repair."

Shuttle buses were made available between Kimball and Southport to provide connecting service through the affected area, the CTA said.

Riders can consider alternatives such as nearby bus routes, or using buses to other rail lines. Additionally, consider using the #81 Lawrence and #82 Kimball bus routes.
