Glamorous speed skater sends Playboy readers into meltdown as chief says ‘something like this has never happened’
JOY BEUNE has sent Dutch Playboy readers into meltdown.
The glamorous speed skater appeared in the December issue of the magazine.
Beune, 25, is a fan favourite on the ice, and her popularity has shown during the sale of the magazine.
In her native Holland, the latest Dutch Playboy issue has already had to be reprinted despite only going on sale last Thursday.
Editor-in-chief Niek Stolker has admitted that this situation has “never happened” before.
He told the Dutch portal Ad: “In the eleven years that Pijper Media has been publishing our magazine, something like this has never happened.
“Books are reprinted, but that is not usually the case with magazines.”
Beune is the first world champion to make the cover of Dutch Playboy.
She admitted that she was surprised after hearing how many issues of the magazine had sold.
She said: “That is very nice to hear.
“I would not have expected that so many copies would be sold.
“I expected a lot of criticism, but I only hear nice messages from everyone around me and that they think it’s incredibly cool.”
The Dutchwoman became the world champion for the first time in 2024.
She was also the gold medal winner in the 5000 metres in the team pursuit.
However she has not been fortunate enough to earn a medal at an Olympic Games yet in her career.
Buene has revealed why she wanted to do the photoshoot with Dutch Playboy.
She said: “There were moments when I compared myself to other speed skaters.
“They are all super slim and have incredibly toned bodies.
“Then I thought: Maybe I’m too heavy. I need to be as light as possible, that’s how I run the fastest.
“But that’s a load of nonsense. You have to eat well, you need that energy.”
She is currently dating fellow speed skater star Kjeld Nuis, 35, and has been since 2019.
