Rory McIlroy Gives Head-Turning First Glimpse At TGL Match Gameplay

Rory McIlroy gave golf fans their first glimpse at the next big thing in the sport on Thursday.

The inaugural TGL season is rapidly approaching, and the face of the league offered a yet-to-be-seen look at how matches for his Boston Common Golf and the rest of the league will actually look this winter.

The sim-based indoor golf league launches Jan. 7 at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. While there have been detailed renderings and drawings of what gameplay will look like, it has been hard to completely visualize it — until now.

McIlroy posted this video to his social media accounts Thursday afternoon:

Among the highlights, it was interesting to see the various surface types. It’s not just the artificial turf you’ll see at your local indoor simulator. It’s also the first real chance to see the revolutionary rotating putting green.

Niall Horan, who has invested in Boston Common Golf, also took the new green for a spin in a recent video posted to YouTube.

The TGL first match is set for Jan. 7 with New York taking on The Bay. McIlroy and Boston Common Golf will have to wait for Jan. 27 to make their debut in a clash with Tiger Woods and the Jupiter Links.
