New plans arise for historic Gold Dome in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — After decades of battling to save a gold iconic structure located in the heart of Oklahoma City, new life is now breathing into the Gold Dome.

The Gold Dome, located on the corner of NW 23rd and Classen, was previously home to Citizens State Bank for many years, until 2001 when the building was sold.

The dome had been sold many times before talks of demolishing it began. In 2001, picketers worked to save the building, and till this day, the empty dome still stands.

Now, the Classen Corridor Revitalization TIF Review Committee has a plan on the table for the dome, during its public meeting scheduled for Monday, December 16.

The plan to be discussed and up for approval on Monday will include giving $3 million in Classen Corridor Revitalization TIF money towards the Gold Dome and turn it into a concert and entertainment venue.

Overall, the total cost of the project is estimated to be $10 million, with an additional $7 million coming from the developer for the project.
