YouTube TV notifies customers of another big price jump

(WXIN) -- YouTube TV customers will see a price increase within the next month.

In an email to subscribers, the streaming service indicated the monthly price for the YouTube TV Base Plan would rise from $72.99 to $82.99 starting on Jan. 13, 2025.

The email said the hike was due to the “rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service.”

“We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members,” the email said.

YouTube TV subscribers will see the change reflected in their first billing cycle “on or after” the Jan. 13 date. Those on a trial or promotional price will be unaffected.

“We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand that some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions,” the email said.

Long gone are the days when a YouTube TV subscription cost just $34.99 a month upon its debut in 2017. The monthly subscription rate has steadily risen since then, with an increase to $49.99 in 2019 and another to $64.99 in 2020. The service announced its last major increase in March 2023, raising the price to $72.99.

The YouTube TV website already reflects the $82.99 new price, although new subscribers can get a promotional rate of $59.99 for the first three months.
