Woman shot in head after complaint about music volume: Court docs

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 26-year-old man is facing several charges, including attempted murder, following a shooting at a Gresham apartment complex over loud music, according to court documents.

Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Gresham police responded to the complex on Southeast Pleasant View Drive after receiving several reports of a shooting, court documents state.

On the scene, officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman’s boyfriend stated she heard loud music coming from the parking lot and left her apartment to check on the music when she found the defendant -- identified in court documents as Kuian Kellum -- and his girlfriend outside of their apartment, the affidavit states.

The victim argued with Kellum about the volume of his music, when Kellum's girlfriend pushed her and tried to get between the two of them, according to court documents, noting that the victim knocked takeout containers out of their hands, sparking a physical fight.

The victim’s boyfriend pepper sprayed the Kellum, leading him to fire his gun three times towards the couple, with one of the bullets striking the victim, court documents state, adding she was taken to the hospital for the wound.

Kellum told police he was afraid of the victim and that she and her boyfriend were going to “pummel him,” according to court documents.

Kellum was charged with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, recklessly endangering another person, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
