1 killed in plane crash on NY interstate: police
HARRISON, N.Y. (PIX11) – One person was killed in a small plane crash Thursday on an interstate in Westchester County, New York, police said.
The plane crashed on Interstate 684 near Exit 2 in the town of Harrison around 7 p.m., according to New York State Police.
The pilot of a single-engine Tecnam P-2008 reported engine issues before the crash, according to the FAA.
One of the two people on the plane died, police said. The other victim is in serious condition, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
"My heart goes out to the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I am praying for a safe recovery for the injured individual," Hochul said.
Hochul said the crash caused gas to spill from the plane, which the Department of Environmental Conservation is working to contain and clean up.
I-684 is closed in both directions. Detours have been put in place.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
