Store owner, cashier arrested in drug sting operation, St. Landry Sheriff says
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The owner of One Stop Store in Grand Coteau and a cashier are facing drug-related charges after allegedly selling marijuana to narcotics officers at the business, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
In a news release, Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz announced the arrest of Nasir Sohail, 46, and Shoaib Munir, 42, both of Opelousas. The two men are brothers, authorities said.
Sohail, who authorities said is the business owner, faces one count each of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Munir, the cashier, was charged with the following:
- Distribution of marijuana
- Two counts of illegal Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
- Possession with the intent to distribute hydrocodone
- Two counts of possession of a legend drug
- Two counts of monies derived from drug proceeds
According to the news release, SLPSO narcotics detectives "conducted a narcotics operation" at the One Stop Store on Wednesday. The store is located at 536 East Martin Luther King Drive in Grand Coteau.
"During the operation, agents utilized a confidential informant to purchase marijuana from the store’s cashier. After the transaction was completed, agents obtained a search warrant for the business," the news release read.
Guidroz said the business owner was found inside a vehicle in the store's parking lot.
"Upon contact with him, agents detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle Sohail occupied," he said in the news release. Detectives then searched the vehicle and allegedly found a bag of marijuana on the front passenger seat and another bag of marijuana on Sohail's person.
Detectives reported finding the following when searching the business:
- two firearms
- one Viagra tablet
- two Cialis tablets in individual packaging
Guidroz said detectives also seized $932 from the store's cash register "due to the money being comingled with drug proceeds."
Authorities said the following items were allegedly found on Munir's person and in his vehicle:
- a bag of marijuana
- $475 cash
- an unlabled medicine bottle containing seven hydrocodone tablets, nine Baclofen tablets and four Viagra tablets
