Sports briefs: Archie Williams dominates in Red Brown opener

Host Archie Williams took a commanding lead en route to 66-9 rout of Kennedy in Thursday’s nightcap to the opening round of the Carl “Red” Brown Tournament. The Peregrine Falcons dominated from the start to take a 31-0 advantage.

Junior Brian Wright scored 16 points, all in the first half, as all 11 Archie Williams players scored. Juniors Grady Stewart and Ephraim Sohn each had four of the Falcons’ 20 assists. Archie Williams advances to Friday’s semifinals for a 7:15 p.m. contest with Hayward, a 65-45 first-round winner over Tam.

  • Joe Hammond had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Marin Catholic as Serra led wire to wire, 68-45, at the De La Salle tournament. Henry Dibble scored nine points for MC (2-3), which play at 4:30 p.m. Friday against the loser of the De La Salle-St. Joseph Notre Dame game.
  • San Marin beat Analy, 74-30, in the opening round of the Rose City Tournament, hosted by Cardinal Newman. The Mustangs (1-1) are scheduled to face Casa Grande on Friday.

Girls basketball

San Marin spread out the scoring during Thursday’s 48-17 home win against Vintage. Abby Bartholo led the Mustangs (6-2) with eight points, while Olivia Maffei and Lily Devol added seven points each. The Mustangs travel to Vallejo on Saturday.

  • Jocelyn Gigounas scored 18 points and Izzy McFadden added 16 for Marin Catholic in s 57-50 loss to University on Thursday. Brooke Spagnuolo added nine points for the Wildcats (2-3) and Simone Claxton added five points.

Boys soccer

Terra Linda got a couple of second-half goals from Johan Cifuentes in the Mission City Invitational opener, a 4-2 loss to Granada on Thursday. Joseph Rodriguez and Diego Santizo provided the assists for Cifuentes, who has scored five times in two games so far this week.

  • Marco Caruso scored twice as Tam dropped a wild one 4-3 against Vintage on Thursday night. Nate Wanger also scored for the Red-tailed Hawks (0-2-2).

Girls soccer

Rashell Diaz scored both goals as Terra Linda took down Rancho Cotate 2-1 on Thursday night. Diaz scored her first goal right before the half on an assist from Josie Quinby. Diaz scored her second goal unassisted in the 50th minute.

  • Sydney Middleton, Sarah Farese, and Teagan McCormick scored to lead Redwood (3-0-1) to a 3-1 non-league win against San Marin on Thursday night. Middleton and McCormick’s goal were unassisted. Farse’s goal was set up by Ava Walkeryee. Sicily Grasso scored for San Marin (0-2-0).
  • Jaela Brown scored one goal and caused Elsie Allen to score an own goal as San Rafael rolled to a 6-0 win on Thursday night. The Bulldogs (4-2) also got goals from Jamie Ordonez, Ashanti Solano, Gabby Rodriguez, and Myrna Escamilla.
  • Sienna Denmark scored for Novato after Audrey Kobayashi forced a save from the keeper in the Hornets’ 2-1 loss to Santa Rosa on Thursday night.
  • Leta Benson and Gabi Rode found the back of the net to lead Archie Williams (2-2-1) to its second consecutive win, 2-1 against Piner on Thursday night.
