'He knew this was coming': MAGA lawyer's new conspiracy involves Wray resignation — and J6

0

New MAGA conspiracy theories have trickled in in the hours after a Justice Department inspector general report found no evidence to support right-wing claims that undercover FBI agents provoked the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Mike Davis, a top lawyer in the MAGA movement, wasn’t persuaded by the government report that hit Thursday undermining yearslong Republican-based conspiracy theories surrounding the origin of Jan. 6. He also appeared weary of the timing of the report’s release, suggesting it was the catalyst for FBI Director Christopher Wray's widely criticized resignation the day before.

“There is going to be a full investigation on this and they know it,” Davis said Thursday on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast. “I think that’s probably one of the big reasons that Chris Wray decided it was a good day to announce his resignation – he knew this was coming out from the IG – and there has to be accountability.”

Davis also grabbed onto the FBI’s acknowledgment in the report that at least three confidential human sources were said to be at the Capitol during the riot, although none of them had authorization to enter the Capitol or a restricted area.

“Why weren’t they prosecuted like the other January 6 defendants?” Davis asked on the podcast. “And that’s the ultimate tell.”

He added that the Jan. 6 defendants could possibly advance another legal defense in their criminal cases.

“If you have paid federal informants in there instigating the violence or encouraging people to trespass, as we’ve seen on videos, then it seems like there could be an entrapment defense that the FBI should have disclosed to these defendants,” Davis said.

According to Davis, there are “three categories of people who were there on January 6:" People who were there “peacefully,” people who trespassed and people who were violent, which he added, should be “treated more harshly.”
