'Andor' Season 2: Release Date, Cast and Surprising 'Star Wars' Time-Jumps
After a wait of nearly three years, the most critically beloved of the Star Wars Disney+ shows is back. Andor—the show centered on the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)—is returning for a second season. While fans of Season 1 can expect the same grit and earnestness that pervaded season 1, the new season will be different in several ways. Because this season has to lead to the events of the films Rogue One (2016) and A New Hope (1977), you may think several events are set in stone. But are they? What do we really know about Star Wars: Andor Season 2?
Here’s your complete guide to everything about this gripping drama, from the cast, to the release date, to the dynamic and interesting adjustment to the plot this time around. No spoilers ahead.
Andor Season 2 Release Date
Andor Season 2 is set to hit Disney+ on April 22, 2025. As noted, this is nearly three full years after the show initially debuted Season 1 on September 21, 2022. Back then, the show debuted with three full episodes. Like Season 1, Andor Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes in total.
Andor Season 2's exciting trailer
As of this writing, there's not a public trailer for Andor Season 2. However, a full trailer was screened on November 9, 2024, at D23 in Brazil. Snippets of Andor Season 2 can also be glimpsed in the officially released Disney+ “Coming In 2025” trailer.
So far, the big news is that we see Andor on the famous Yavin IV Rebel Base from A New Hope. And, in one scene, he seems to be stealing a TIE Fighter.
Andor Season 2 Cast — including Rogue One alums
Most of Andor Season 1’s cast will return for Season 2, assuming their characters survived. That includes:
- Diego Luna as Cassian Andor
- Kyle Soller as Syril Karn
- Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen
- Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael
- Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma
- Denise Gough as Dedra Meero
- Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha
- Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz
- Elizabeth Dulau as Kleya Marki
Season 2 will also see the return of Ben Mendelsohn, reprising his role as Orson Krennic from Rogue One. Forest Whitaker will also reprise is role as Saw Gerrera from Season 1 and Rogue One.
Andor Season 2 Plot and Critical Time Jumps
While the entirety of Andor Season 1 took place five years before Rogue One, Season 2 will adopt a very different structure. In a 2022 interview with Deadline, showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that Season 2 has to cover the next four years, which means after four episodes there will be a one-year time jump. This will allow the show to cover more ground than Season 1, and bring everything right up to the opening moments of Rogue One.
We’ll see Cassian go from a rugged recruit in the Rebel Alliance to the guy who's basically leading all the spy missions. Because the Season 1 post-credits sequence teased the construction of the Death Star, it’s a good bet that famous superweapon will also appear in Season 2.
Will Darth Vader be along for the ride? So far, nobody knows. But, because of how close Andor Season 2 will come to the classic Star Wars era, it’s a good bet this go-around will have a lot more cameos and callbacks than it did in Season 1.
Will all of this make Andor Season 2 better than Season 1? Right now, we don’t know. But of all the Star Wars shows, the Force is very strong with this one.
