PGA Awards announces nominations for children’s, short form, sports programs: ‘SpongeBob,’ ‘The Making of Shōgun,’ ‘Hard Knocks’ score nods
Thanks to the PGA Awards, we’re going to get that SpongeBob vs. Snuffleupagus showdown we’ve been waiting for.
The Producers Guild of America on Thursday announced nominations in the categories of Best Children’s Program, Best Short Form Program, and Best Sports Program. (The guild’s documentary nominees were unveiled on Dec. 10, while the major film and TV nominees will be announced on Jan. 10.)
The children’s lineup for the 36th Producers Guild Awards will pit the aforementioned pineapple-dwelling star of “SpongeBob SquarePants” against the Muppets of “Sesame Street.” The rest of the category includes “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock,” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” At last year’s gala, “Sesame Street” claimed this trophy against an entirely different crop of co-nominees.
The short-form category features behind-the-scenes looks at some of your favorite scripted shows, including “The Crown,” “Hacks,” “The Penguin,” “Real Time With Bill Maher,” and “Shōgun.” Two of those programs — “Hacks” and “Shōgun” — just won major Emmy Awards for comedy and drama, respectively. Last year, “Succession: Controlling the Narrative” won this short form prize.
And the five nominees from the world of sports are “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” “Hard Knocks: Offseason With the New York Giants,” “Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend,” “Simone Biles Rising,” and “Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics.” Netflix’s “Beckham” prevailed in this race a year ago.
The black-tie awards ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. Here are the 2025 PGA Awards nominations for children’s, short form, and sports programs:
