Texas Sues New York Doctor for Illegally Trafficking Abortion Pills

0

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit today against a New York doctor who illegally sent abortion pills to a pregnant woman in Texas.

New York physician Margaret Daley Carpenter trafficked the drugs across state lines without possessing a Texas medical license or authorization to practice telemedicine in the state.

Dr. Carpenter prescribed and supplied two drugs to cause an abortion. The 20-year-old mother was then hospitalized for severe bleeding, and her nine-week-old preborn baby passed away. The child’s father later found the abortion pills in their home in Collin County.

The State of Texas asked a judge to block Dr. Carpenter from prescribing and supplying any more abortion-inducing drugs illegally. If Texas wins, this case could open the door for the state to take further legal action against one of the largest organizations in the illegal abortion cartel: Aid Access. Carpenter collaborates with Aid Access, which unlawfully sent 19,000 abortion pills straight to pregnant women’s homes and dorm rooms in a single year.

Pro-Life policies exist to protect women and children, but additional legal and legislative measures are needed to stop activists like Dr. Carpenter who traffic deadly abortion drugs.

Attorney General Paxton stated in his press release:

“In this case, an out-of-state doctor violated the law and caused serious harm to this patient. This doctor prescribed abortion-inducing drugs—unauthorized, over telemedicine—causing her patient to end up in the hospital with serious complications. In Texas, we treasure the health and lives of mothers and babies, and this is why out-of-state doctors may not illegally and dangerously prescribe abortion-inducing drugs to Texas residents.”

The lawsuit emphasizes, “Carpenter’s knowing and continuing violations of Texas law places women and unborn children in Texas at risk.”

Texas Right to Life supports this case brought against Carpenter and urges state lawmakers to pass new policies that would defend babies and mothers from the abortion industry’s deadly tactics.
