Red Sox Reportedly Remain ‘Persistent’ In Talks For Mariners Arm
The Red Sox made a blockbuster trade for Garrett Crochet and all indications signal they aren’t done after that.
Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow plainly stated Boston is still open to adding the rotation while also trying to bolster the bullpen and add a right-handed bat.
Corbin Burnes remains the top pitcher on the market, but the Red Sox also have been linked to multiple pitchers in the trade market. Luis Castillo has been a popular name, and multiple reports indicate the Seattle Mariners might be open to dealing one of their top arms.
Even after the Crochet trade, Boston’s persistence was felt by Seattle.
“The Boston Red Sox have been persistent in their pursuit of a Mariners starter, a source said, even after the Red Sox traded four prospects to the Chicago White Sox for Garrett Crochet on Wednesday,” Ryan Divish and Adam Jude on the Seattle Times reported Friday.
The Seattle Times report is in line with another report that stated the Red Sox front office has been “tireless” in their efforts to swing another trade.
Seattle reportedly has its eye on Christian Walker, so a Castillo trade could depend on how likely the Mariners are to make a push for the free agent first baseman. But momentum does seem to continue to grow for Boston toward a potential trade for Castillo.
