How many people born in Oregon still live in Oregon?

0

(NEXSTAR) — There's a certain pride that comes with being born in Oregon. Known for its natural beauty and diverse landscapes, the Beaver State has plenty to offer. So if you're born there, why would you ever want to leave?

New data shows that most Oregonians typically don't.

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2023, there are roughly 334 million people who currently live in the United States. About 2.9 million of those people were born in Oregon.

Of the roughly 2.9 million people who are born Oregonians, a little over 1.9 million of them still to this day live in Oregon -- about 65%.

Those 65% make up over half of Oregon's roughly 4.2 million resident population. The rest of Oregon is made up of people from all over the world including about 621,000 from California, over 215,000 from Washington, roughly 62,000 from Texas, and over 450,000 from foreign countries, Census estimates show.

As for the other roughly 35% of Oregonians who did not stay in their home state, the majority moved to Washington (305,000), California (152,000), Idaho (75,000), and Arizona (63,000).
