Support for CHIPS industry continues at state and national level
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York has continued to support the growing semiconductor chip industry. Funding to support chip fabs has come from the Federal level as well, secured by efforts from Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
This week on Empire State Weekly, Kevin Younis, the COO at Empire State Development, explained the reason behind the support for the industry. He detailed that the funding came after the COVID-19 pandemic impacted supply lines, which meant that the country faced a shortage of vital semiconductor chips.
"So, there was a realization that we were overly dependent on manufacturing from overseas. So the Chips Act, the federal Chips Act, this 52 billion dollars to bring semiconductor manufacturing, was passed by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. And Governor Hocul recognized that we have this incredible opportunity. We gotta bring it back to us, let's bring it back here. So she passed what's called the Green CHIPS Act that's a ten billion dollar incentive program to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to New York," said Younis.
Also this week, Audrey Trivino-Erazo, the Associate Commissioner for the Office of Prevention and Health Initiatives at the Office of Mental Health, explained mental health resources. She explained the symptoms that may indicate one's mental health is negatively impacted by the time of year. She stressed the importance of using resources to manage mental health.
"If we're having difficulty sleeping, if we're having difficulty with eating in the right way, if we feel like we're withdrawing from others, that's the time to really seek pathways to support. It's important that the help that you seek is important and relevant for you, and that it feels comfortable for you, right, because help is only help if it helps," said Trivino-Erazo.
