WPL Auction 2025: Delhi Capitals eye to strengthen their squad

0

Delhi Capitals are gearing up for the upcoming WPL 2025 Player Auction, set to take place this Sunday, as they aim to refine their roster for another shot at glory.

In a statement from New Delhi, head coach Jonathan Batty expressed confidence despite the team having the smallest budget in the room, citing that their shopping list is concise. “We’re not overly concerned about our limited purse. Our focus is on addressing just a few specifics. We’ve held in-depth discussions leading up to the auction and our scouting team has thoroughly evaluated a wealth of local talent during the off-season. We are optimistic about identifying the minor gaps that need filling to make our squad more complete,” Batty remarked, as noted in a press release.

In preparation for the auction, the Delhi Capitals made the strategic decision to release Poonam Yadav, Laura Harris, Aparna Mondal, and Ashwani Kumari, allowing for fresh talent to breathe life into the squad.

“We delve into statistics and an array of data, blending that with the immense experience already present in our setup. Sourav Ganguly’s insights are invaluable; his understanding of cricket is unparalleled worldwide. We constantly engage with him to tap into his wisdom on enhancing our strategy for the auction,” Batty elaborated, as reported by the franchise.

In their pursuit of championship glory, the Delhi Capitals have not yet secured the coveted title, finishing as runners-up in both editions of the Women’s Premier League so far.

Last month, the list of retained players ahead of the next Women’s Premier League season was revealed, showcasing the core of each franchise. A total of 71 players, inclusive of 25 overseas stars, have been retained across five franchises for the forthcoming season.

Among those retained by Delhi Capitals are star players such as Alice Capsey, Annabel Sutherland, Arundhati Reddy, and Jemimah Rodrigues, alongside a mix of both domestic and international talents.

Retained Players: Alice Capsey, Annabel Sutherland, Arundhati Reddy, Jemimah Rodrigues, Jess Jonassen, Marizanne Kapp, Meg Lanning, Minnu Mani, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Shikha Pandey, Sneha Deepthi, Taniyaa Bhatia, and Titas Sadhu.

Released Players: Aparna Mondal, Ashwani Kumari, Laura Harris, and Poonam Yadav.

With the auction on the horizon, all eyes will be on the Delhi Capitals as they seek to shore up their squad and mount a serious challenge in the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League.
