Rahul Dravid’s younger son Anvay shines with ton in Vijay Merchant Trophy
New Delhi: Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid, is making waves in the cricketing world after scoring his debut hundred for Karnataka in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. This impressive achievement took place on Friday at the DVR Ground in Mulapadu, playing a vital role in Karnataka taking the first-innings lead against Jharkhand Under-16 in a match that ended in a draw.
Batting at the No. 4 position as the wicket-keeper, Anvay showcased his talent by finishing with a score of 100 not out from 153 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. His contributions were instrumental in Karnataka’s chase following Jharkhand’s total of 387, which was supported by solid centuries from openers Arya Gowda and captain Dhruv Krishnan, who forged a strong 229-run partnership.
This match marked Anvay’s third innings in the current Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he had previously scored a total of 75 runs, including a half-century. His consistent performance indicates a bright future ahead, especially after being appointed the captain of Karnataka in the Under-14 tournaments last year.
Anvay’s accomplishments are a testament to his cricketing lineage. His older brother, Samit, has also played for Karnataka in various age-group competitions and was recently selected for the India Under-19 team, though an unfortunate knee injury sidelined him. Nevertheless, Samit’s prior achievements, particularly in events like the Cooch Behar Trophy, showcase the family’s strong connection to the game.
With Anvay’s exciting start and the impressive legacy of both brothers, cricket fans in Karnataka have plenty to be excited about in the future. Anvay’s maiden century is just the first chapter of what promises to be an illustrious cricketing career for the Dravid family.
