Longview police reveal identify of man killed after chase, fatal rollover crash back in May
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Longview police have released the identity of a Vancouver man killed after a crash following a police chase which happened back in May.
The incident happened the night of May 17, when authorities said an officer saw a Chevy Impala driving erratically, speeding and lane weaving along Ocean Beach Highway.
When the officer attempted to stop the driver, the car sped up, prompting a police chase.
During the pursuit, police said the driver nearly caused several crashes before hitting a curb and rolling upside down through a brick wall.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver, identified as 22-year-old Dyami Cortez, dead at the scene.
Upon further investigation into the crash, Washington State Patrol found Cortez had alcohol, fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system.
Police added they found the Impala had been linked to a felony shoplifting incident in Woodland earlier that day. Further, Cortez was wanted on active felony and misdemeanor warrants and had a history of being armed and dangerous, authorities said.
In a statement released Thursday, police said they "delayed the release of this information to ensure accuracy and thoroughness. It required the conclusion of the Washington State Patrol’s investigation, the toxicology reports, and an internal administrative review of the incident, all of which are now complete."
