Puerto Rico holds "special" inclusive baseball clinic
The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR) partnered with the Health Department of Las Piedras to offer a baseball clinic to fans with an intellectual impairment.
The Hope Baseball Clinic - Operacion Alegria (Operation Joy) involved 15 participants who practiced pitching and hitting with National Team manager and former Major League Baseball (MLB) star Juan Igor Gonzalez (who led Puerto Rico at last month's WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS), his assistant coach Eddie Gonzalez, second baseman Richard Gonzalez and pitcher José Soler. Igor Gonzalez donated autographed baseballs to all participants.
"It was a special day," commented FBPR President José Daniel Quiles. "It was a true gift of love and joy that marked the beginning of the festive season. We enjoyed a day full of smiles and emotions. We are committed to initiatives like this, which transcend the playing field and give unforgettable moments."
Quiles added: "This clinic symbolizes the FBPR's commitment to inclusion and building a more united society through baseball, carrying a message of hope."
FBPR Executive Director Efraín Williams and Las Piedras Mayor Miguel Micky López also participated in the event.
