ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Chris Dehring has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket West Indies (CWI).

A Jamaican national with an impressive background spanning finance, sports management, media, and telecommunications, Dehring is set to lead the organization into a transformative era.

Dehring’s appointment comes after a global search process that attracted over 50 candidates from Europe, Australia, Afghanistan, India, and the Caribbean. His selection, finalised through a rigorous merit-based evaluation, reflects CWI’s dedication to securing world-class leadership for West Indies cricket.

Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of CWI, expressed his enthusiasm for Dehring’s return, stating, “Consistent with the priority to recruit exceptional leadership to drive our mission forward, Chris Dehring represents the best of the best—an innovator, strategist, business magnate, and passionate advocate for West Indies cricket. His return as an executive at West Indies cricket signals the dawn of an exciting new era as we work to reclaim our position as a dominant force in world cricket.”

Dehring’s career is marked by notable achievements across various industries. He is the founder of SportsMax, the Caribbean’s first sports television network, which brought global events like the FIFA World Cup and the NBA to regional audiences.

As a co-founder of Dehring, Bunting & Golding, Jamaica’s first investment bank, he played a key role in its growth into a financial leader before its acquisition by Scotiabank. Additionally, his entrepreneurial ventures include ReadyTV, Jamaica’s first digital broadcast television service, and ReadyNET, the country’s first satellite internet provider.

In telecommunications, Dehring held a senior executive role at Cable & Wireless Communications, managing US$3.5 billion in annual revenues. His efforts expanded access to advanced telecom services across the Caribbean and Latin America, earning him a reputation as an innovator in digital content delivery and technological integration.

Dehring is no stranger to West Indies cricket, having previously served as Managing Director and CEO of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. During this period, he oversaw one of the Caribbean’s largest sporting events, including the construction of 10 new stadiums and the introduction of fan-centered experiences like The Mound party stand at Sabina Park.

His leadership also helped launch development initiatives such as the Shell Cricket Academy and Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket, while achieving record-breaking revenues and global viewership for the tournament.

Speaking about his new role, Dehring shared his excitement, saying, “West Indies cricket has always held a special place in my heart. As a unifying force and a symbol of pride for our region, I am honored to return to an organization that holds great significance to our people. Together with the CWI team and stakeholders, I am committed to driving innovation, fostering talent, and reigniting the passion for West Indies cricket, both at home and globally.”

Dehring will officially assume his duties on February 1, 2025, and will be based at CWI’s headquarters at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua. As CEO, he will lead the organization’s strategic and operational efforts to strengthen West Indies cricket on the global stage. (PR)
